Privacy policy

What we collect when you use this website and Quarkdown Studio, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated October 14, 2026.

Who we are

Quarkdown is developed by Giorgio Garofalo, who is the data controller for the services described here. You can reach us about anything in this policy at info@quarkdown.com.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the website at quarkdown.com and Quarkdown Studio at studio.quarkdown.com.

The open-source Quarkdown compiler and the VS Code extension run on your own computer. They do not send us your documents or any usage data. The exception is a package you include from a registry, which is downloaded from the registry's host (such as GitHub) under that host's own terms.

This website

The website is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It sets no cookies. Like any web server, GitHub may log your IP address and browser details when you visit; see GitHub's privacy statement.

We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not fingerprint or track you across sites. It records aggregate page views, referrers, browser and country, and does not store your IP address. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply to you and, for education discount requests, to check your eligibility.

What Quarkdown Studio collects

Spell check and live preview run entirely in your browser. Your text is not sent to a third party to check spelling.

How we use it

We use your data only to:

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your projects to train AI models.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the legal bases are: the performance of our contract with you (running the service and your subscription), our legitimate interests (security, reliability and product improvement), your consent (optional cookies), and legal obligations (tax and accounting records).

Cookies and similar technologies

Quarkdown Studio uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in. These cannot be turned off.

Optional analytics and marketing cookies are loaded through Google Tag Manager only after you accept them in the cookie banner. Until then, Google's consent signals stay denied. You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Account in Quarkdown Studio.

Who we share it with

We share personal data only with the service providers we need to run the website and Quarkdown Studio, each bound by its own data protection terms:

When you connect an AI agent to Quarkdown Studio, that agent reads and edits your projects on your behalf, and what it reads is handled by the agent's provider under their own policy. You can disconnect it at any time from Settings → Apps.

We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.

International transfers

Some of the providers above, such as Stripe, Cloudflare, Google and Telegram, may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer relies on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, as offered by each provider.

How long we keep it

Deleting a project removes its files and stored exports. To delete your account and everything in it, email us at info@quarkdown.com.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to withdraw any consent you have given. Email us at info@quarkdown.com and we will respond within 30 days. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections, access to your projects is restricted to your account, and exports run in isolated sandboxes. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you as the law requires if a breach affects it.

Children

Quarkdown Studio is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are under 18, or under the age of digital consent in your country, you need permission from a parent or guardian to use it, and a paid plan must be purchased by an adult. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact us atinfo@quarkdown.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Quarkdown evolves. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will let you know of significant changes by email or in Quarkdown Studio.
